Newborn Baby Supplies that You Need
There are many kinds of baby supplies you can purchase for your newborn. Since there are so many products in the market today, the new mom will surely have a difficult time deciding which are the most important baby supplies and which are not. Below are some of the baby supplies that a newborn needs and hopefully new moms would take note of.
It is important to buy diapers for your newborn baby but the type and the cost of diapers are still unknown to them. There are two kinds of diapers that you can buy – reusable cloth diapers and disposable diapers. The diaper that is good for your baby will be your own decision to make. You buy the type of diaper that you prefer.
If you buy reusable cloth diapers, you need to spend time washing and cleaning it when it gets soiled. If you don’t mind washing cloth diapers daily, then you can save on this one because you buy it only once and keep on reusing it. While you keep on spending money on disposable diapers, it gives you the benefit of convenience. You should weight your options. It then only boils down to your personal preference and your financial condition.
It does not matter what diaper you choose, because the most important thing is that your baby is kept clean and hygienic. Soft cloths that absorb water well should be chosen if you decide to go for cloth. Every now and then dab your baby with alcohol, oil, or lotions using cotton balls.
Newborn babies sometimes develop heat rash and other skin conditions. These are usually mild and temporary and will disappear on their own. It is best to ease the baby whenever there is discomfort. Doctor approved itch cream and petroleum jelly are useful for small sections for easing rough or dry spots.
During the first few days of newborn life, the umbilical cord may be a place for infection to enter the baby’s body. It is then important to care for it properly. Antibacterial ointment is important. Gauze pads, bandage strips in different sizes and a low-stick adhesive tape are essential first-aid kit items.
The area surrounding your baby’s umbilical cord should always be clean and dry while the baby’s cord is healing. Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your baby’s cord since germs can be carried on your hands. The belly button area should be cleaned at least once a day especially if it looks moist or sticky.
To keep the baby warm, you should have warm baby cloth and blanket. It is also good to have a cloth head covering. Heat can be lost through the baby’s scallops. You can let your baby wear a little bonnet or hat outdoors to protect the head and face from the harsh sunlight. You can buy soft t-shirts with large head openings and armholes since they are easier for you to change and clean since babies can spit up and can get dirty.
